The sign at the front door of All Things Italian reads: “Don’t mind the mess, we’re moving!!” On March 31 the store will be closing its doors at its West Kagy location and setting up shop in the front retail space of the Sweet Pea Bakery on Main Street.

Nichole Joyce opened her store five years ago in what was at the time one of few retail spaces available in Bozeman suited to her needs. Unfortunately, the store on Kagy, west of 19th Avenue, has proven to be a difficult retail location.

“People forget us at the end of the road,” says Joyce, and now her lease is up, so she’s decided to move.

Joyce acknowledges that sharing space with another business will help reduce expenses and Sweet Pea Bakery has more room than they need. The new space, however, will be smaller than the store All Things Italian has occupied for the past five years. Joyce doesn’t plan on selling much less, although some items that didn’t sell well in the past will no longer be carried. Instead, Joyce says, the new store will be “more market-like” and “jam-packed.”

Joyce says she’s heard from several regulars excited for the opportunity to shop at two of their favorite local businesses at once and, she says, pointing out another benefit of joining forces. “Sweet Pea probably has customers that have never even heard of us,” she says.

All Things Italian has many items discounted to reduce inventory before the move and is selling two bistro sets that will not fit into the new space. The West Kagy location closes on March 31 and the new location will be ready for business in the Sweet Pea Bakery at 2622 West Main Street by mid-April.
